Do I need a cookie policy for my EU online shop?

If your shop sets any cookie beyond what is strictly necessary to make the site work — analytics, advertising pixels, embedded video, or marketing tools — the ePrivacy Directive requires you to ask for consent first and explain each purpose. A cookie policy is how you set that out. A shop that sets only a session or basket cookie needs no consent banner, but still has to describe that in its privacy information.

How long is the EU right of withdrawal, and are there exceptions?

Consumers buying online in the EU have 14 days to withdraw from a purchase without giving a reason, under Directive 2011/83/EU. The period runs from the day the goods are received. Exceptions include custom-made or personalised goods, sealed hygiene items once opened, perishables, and digital content the buyer agreed to receive immediately. Which exceptions apply to you depends on what you sell, which is why ShopPolicy asks about your product types.

Is a privacy policy legally required for a webshop?

Yes. Under GDPR Articles 13 and 14 you must tell people what personal data you collect, why, on what legal basis, who you share it with, how long you keep it, and what rights they have. This applies from your first order, with no minimum turnover or headcount threshold.

Are ShopPolicy documents legal advice?

Do the documents work for my country?

The templates are built on EU-wide law — the Consumer Rights Directive, GDPR, the Sale of Goods Directive and the ePrivacy Directive — which applies across all 27 member states. You pick the country your shop is established in, and the documents reference that country's law for governing-law and dispute-resolution clauses. National rules can add requirements on top of the EU baseline, so a local review is worthwhile before publishing.
